Ideas 101

Your turn...What is your “favorite” web site?

There are many, many folks who join us here but who do not chime in—now is the time. I showed you my favorite web site, now tell me yours. Think hard, of all the web sites you have visited, which one struck the most profound chord with you? You think it is exquisitely designed, it has some emotional meaning for you, or it led you to some pivotal thought—whatever the reason. Show me where it is and tell me why you chose it.

I'll even add a small incentive—my favorite of your favorites wins a copy of The Business Side of Creativity by Cameron Foote.

To add your site and explanation, post a comment by clicking “>>Comment” below or click the red box here and e-mail it to me.

I won't win the prize in that I picked several favorites. I'll note my thoughts on why I like them.

CK has done an amazing job of connecting with her readers -- good content. She's provided considerate tools (note the print option). She responds to e-mail.

Your site: You provide great content, too. You respond to posts -- which I appreciate. I don't get your blog's name, though. I must have missed the "about" page.

Best,

Thanks for this Paige. I will check these out.

I try to explain the Pageplane.com name in the header:

"A satellite provides perspective, walking the surface offers insight—but low level flight reveals both the details AND how they fit together to form the whole. PagePlane attempts to see design and marketing from just above the treetops."

I have always been enthralled with that treetop perspective. (I'm a nut for Live Search: http://maps.live.com/default.aspx?v=2&FORM=LMLTCP&cp=q7q1kx8j8rbz&style=b&lvl=1&tilt=-90&dir=0&alt=-1000&scene=20651548&phx=0&phy=0&phscl=1&encType=1)

Two words - Seth Godin! www.sethgodin.com

This man is a revolutionary and also bald - a winning combination!!!! (I know, more than two words...sue me...:)

Favorite web site http://www.barackobama.com

It’s not even a political thing… I’m Canadian…

I find the consistency in the design. Subtle things like the uses of font and colour are very interesting. The graphics are beautiful and consistent.

The site is easy to navigate. The blogs are huge. Dashboards… Video… Pod casting… and it’s pretty much updated in 12 hours or less. If you take a moment even to thing about the quantity of information on the web site, let alone the amount of updating, the donation side of things…. It really blows a person away.

It’s pretty impressive… Much like the democratic nominee, Mr. Obama…

Leslie vanDuyvendyk

Interesting you should mention the Obama site Leslie. I was just reading about it on Tim Girvin's site. http://blog.girvin.com/?p=1188

I was equally impressed but told him I fear we are getting too good at this.

Too good at sharpening and softening in Photoshop. At adding layers of complexity or removing layers of reality.

Too expert at polling prospects to determine what they want to hear and too adept at assembling those wants into propositions.

Branding people is dangerous territory. These and other political candidates are, as you say, people you might sit next to on a plane. (I was referring to the fact that Tim said he sat next to Hillary Clinton on a plane a while back.) Positioning them as visionaries on placid skyscapes may, in the long run, be doing them a disservice.

You can attract with fantasy but you can only deliver fact. Could any human being live up to the facade of perfection we project?

Hi Chuck,

I just checked out your book from the library & went looking on line to see if you had a website. I was very happy to find your blog... I'm your newest fan. I wanted to send you my favorite website for your contest...

I began dabbling in photography and was introduced to Thomashawk.com
I started following his blog because of his beautiful photography. I find myself constantly saying "wow, what a great shot". I also enjoy reading his blog because he dabbles in everything from electronics to local politics.

As a side note, I learned about Zooomr, which is a photosharing site that he mentions on his blog. There are equally stunning pictures on this "flickr-like" site.

Thank you for letting me play,

Deanna

Thanks for this Deanna. Thomas Hawk looks like a designer turned photographer. I say that because he seems to use explicit cropping and unusual angles more than most. Just reminds me of a graphic designer’s perspective.
