Seth Godin a marketing thinker and doer. I know lots of people who think or do, but far fewer who are accomplished at both. I'm certain you know him—he's written some of the best-selling marketing books of the digital generation—but what the online world is all abuzz about is his latest project: ChangeThis. If you don't know Seth Godin, it's my pleasure to introduce you. His blog...

The proverb says “Rivers need a spring.” As a designer, to get a vision for where I'm headed, it sometimes helps to be reminded of where the craft originated. To that end, I hope I am the first to introduce you to Octavo—an organization dedicated to creating digital facsimiles of the world’s rarest books and manuscripts. It was founded by John Warnock, a name you may recognize as one of the founders of Adobe Systems. Study a masterwork such as The Grammar of Ornament by Welsh architect and interior designer Owen Jones and you'll be wading the headwater.

Ever wish you could recall Web pages (yours, your client's, your prospect's, and any other) as they appeared four or five years ago? You can—whether you have a practical interest or simple curiosity, the Wayback Machine has recorded over 10 billion pages (multiple copies of the entire publicly available Web) since it began archiving in 1996. Someone obviously was jumping on the kitchen floor when Von Glitschka's soufflĂ© was rising. This guy is not only a top-notch illustrator, his Web is among the best designed, most functional I've seen. Take a close look at all that's happening—it is a good lesson in interface design. I especially like the “Annoy-O-Matic” and “Fun With Toast” under the “Animate” button.

Von Glitschka offers some of the “teach by example” lessons he shared with a digital illustration class at a local college. He explains, “I quickly realized the way my students learned best was when I demonstrated a process. I literally showed them how to go about doing a creative task and commented on it. This led me into developing numerous step by steps...”
